Fishing derby brings kids and mentors together in Bloomington
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Kids got a chance to test their fishing skills in Bloomington Sunday.
It was all a part of Cops and Bobbers, a fishing derby for Big Brothers Big Sisters of central Illinois.
Kids and mentors got to spend the day at the lake fishing and enjoying the outdoors.
The event was sponsored by Wal-Mart and The Police Benevolent and Protective Association.
"A lot of times for our kids they don't get to do activities like this. So it's a really special thing to get to come out and do something that they've never tried before. We have kids out here that have never caught a fish let alone touched one and gotten to take it off its hook,” said Mary Roznovsky of Big Brother Big Sister.
The Big Brothers Big Sisters program partners kids with mentors to help children grow and succeed in all areas of life.
